Starwood's Aloft Hotels coming to Miami Beach

    Starwood's Aloft Hotels, a sister brand of W Hotels, is planning a 239-room hotel in South Beach.

    The new hotel would be located at 2360 Collins Avenue, across the street from the Perry hotel (formerly Roney Palace and Gansevoort) and a block away from the W Hotel South Beach.

    The proposal would restore and add a new tower to the historic MiMo structure which was once the Ankara Motel, later known as The Creek Motel. The site had been approved for a condominium building in 2004 which never began construction.

    There is already a sign in front for Plaza Construction, even though they haven't got approvals yet.

    Plaza is also rebuilding the Roney across the street.

    Aloft is trying to get approval again this week, but from what I have seen of the application, it is unlikely that they will get it.

    Allan Shulman did a great design for the Ankara at one time. It was called Rivage. Never happened though.

    Agreed, the Rivage proposal was nice.

    The current architect is Jonathan Cardello of ADD Inc.
