I wondered about Ghirardelli. I walked by it that same night. Totally empty although the lights were all on. That sucks. Miami doesn't have many places to get nice chocolate.

Ghirardelli is being replaced by a Dylan's Candy Bar. Owned by Dylan Lauren, daughter of Ralph Lauren.

They will have a cafe and are trying to get a liquor license.

Yes, folks, it's true: Dylan's Candy Bar will open at 801 Lincoln Road in late fall/early winter...

Once the weather starts cooling down, head over to the former Ghiradelli location to indulge in a fantastic array of confections at the new Dylan's Candy Bar. When asked why she lighted upon our delectable city as the first Southeastern spot for her nationwide concept, Dylan Lauren, Founder and CEO of Dylan's Candy Bar and daughter of legendary designer Ralph Lauren, told us: "Miami is one of my favorite cities. It's vibrant, creative, hip and is a destination that people from all over the world come to visit. These were all the characteristics I was looking for when searching for the new location to expand my brand."

The 3,400-square-foot spot will feature outdoor seating, a Color Your World bulk candy display, Lucite stairs loaded with real candy, and a café with enough treats to even make Willy Wonka blush. The only savory treats we see on New York's menu are pizzas, but the offerings also include dessert pizzas, ice cream sundaes, frozen hot cocoa, "fun-due," s'mores, a make-your-own sandwich bar (fluffer nutter, anyone?), and--drumroll, please!--cocktails. Strawberry Nerds mojitos and coffee cake martinis all around!

Miami Beach development decision delayed after complaints
    By David Smiley
    The Miami Herald

A major Miami Beach redevelopment project has been thrown into limbo because a losing bidder said city officials illegally held a closed door meeting to evaluate competing teams’ proposals to lease and develop city-owned land near Lincoln Road.

The City Commission was expected to vote this month on whether to partner with one or more teams to build shops, apartments, restaurants and cultural venues on three city parking lots.

But interim City Manager Kathie Brooks yanked the vote off the commission’s July 18 agenda after Lincoln Road Development LLC, which was ranked fourth of four, said Miami Beach’s selection committee should have discussed the competing offers in a public meeting.

The Lincoln Theater/H&M project looks absolutely beautiful. It will also house a 100 Montaditos restaurant.

The Sterling Building (Books and Books) restoration and expansion is another Shulman designed project which was approved last year. However, the owner recently obtained an extension for the permit citing difficulty obtaining financing.

The owner of David's Cafe building had applied for design review a few months back but pulled it - still now word on what is replacing it.
