Very interesting article in today's Las Vegas Review-Journal.

    Some Highlights:

    • Most execs were not expecting the casino gaming bill to pass this year. It was always expected to be at least a 2 year process
    • Casino companies continue to press forward with their plans
    • The Panthers are about to announce a partnership with a Las Vegas casino operator
    • The Panthers are keeping the NHL abreast of the situation, and
    • The Panthers believe that they have the best location in South Florida

This fight will be going on for a long time.

...even if it passes in the state legislature, it will be a huge fight in Broward County.

I think people also fail to realize how big the local gambling market is.

Many people think of Magic City Casino (formerly flagler dog track) as a crappy local casino, however last year they took in $1 billion. Other local casinos are also posting huge numbers.

The Panthers signed a deal last quarter with Las Vegas casino operator Boyd Gaming to pursue gaming at the Bank Atlantic Center site.
