The first ridership numbers for the new $500 million Metrorail orange line serving Miami International Airport have been released. The new station opened on July 28.

The statistics are being reported exclusively by exMiami.org.

July 2012 Metrorail passengers at Miami International Airport - validated:

    Sunday 7/29: 2,091
    Monday 7/30: 2,360
    Tuesday 7/31: 2,325

August numbers are not yet validated, but are said to be running at approximately 1,850 passengers per day through the first few weeks of the month. The figures include both boardings and alightings.

Miami-Dade transit has said that a 'ramp-up" period of at least six months will be necessary to evaluate whether ridership statistics will meet forecasts.

  3. This line was the best thing MDT has done. It will prove to be very successful. It's a shame that's all we'll be getting anytime soon.

Post on the new MIA metro station. A ridership report to be released soon...

Remember that it was only open for three full days in July when inaugural ceremonies where taking place, so it is not surprising that those 3 days had higher ridership.

There is an article in this week's Miami Today entitled "Airport's Metrorail Link on track to meet target of 800,000 users yearly."

The average boarding at the station is said to already be matching forecasts despite the fact that ridership is not yet fully developed at the station which will take six months to one year.

Agreed. We have to wait some months to really see how it does, I just thought ridership was going to start a bit higher. When I kept reading 7,000 and 8,000 daily passengers, I was expecting at least 2,000 daily off the bat. We'll see though, it's just starting off.
