As per MAH4546, Zurich is now the fourth largest transatlantic route in Europe from Miami, surpassing Frankfurt, Rome and Milan and behind London, Paris and Madrid.
Cargo trade is also booming between Miami and Switzerland.
Switzerland is now the No. 3 Miami Customs Area trading partner, behind only Brazil and Colombia. Switzerland-Miami trade has increased 277 percent in the past three years. Nine years ago, Switzerland was Miami’s No. 32-ranked trade partner.
Miami is now the leading U.S. importer of gold, and the nation’s leading exporter of scrap of precious metal, almost exclusively being shipped to Switzerland. Due to high value and security needs, it is almost exclusively flown through Miami International Airport.
